Vince Iwuchukwu (2025-)
Born in Germany and raised in San Antonio, Vince Iwuchukwu was the #16 ranked junior in 2021 and ranking as high 25th as a senior in 2022 at Southern California Academy, the same school as former Georgetown forward Drew Fielder. He signed with USC but suffered a heart attack during a summer practice and underwent back surgery at the end of his freshman season, transferring after two seasons with a 5.3 point, 4.7 rebound average with 11 starts as a sophomore.
Iwuchukwu's single season at St. John's was disappointing by comparison, averaging just seven minutes per game behind Zuby Ejiofor, with a 2.7 point, 1.7 rebound average. Expected to return to the Redmen in 2025-26, a deeper St. John's lineup led Iwuchukwu to transfer within hours of the closing of the transfer portal on April 22. His season at Georgetown was far more productive.
Averaging 11.7 points in his first four games, Iwuchukwu was sidelined for the next ten games for what only announced as a "medical procedure" by the basketball office, but was loosely discussed online as a pacemaker-like device to provide real-time monitoring of his cardiovascular system. When Iwuchukwu left after Georgetown's 79-75 win over Clemson, the Hoyas were 4-0. Upon his return January 6 versus DePaul, Georgetown had fallen to 9-5 en route to the conference cellar. Following his return he led the Hoyas in scoring six times and four of the final seven games, including 16 points off the bench in Georgetown's comeback win at Providence. Despite playing in just 24 games, Vince Iwuchukwu led the Hoyas in rebounding for the 2025-26 and finished third in scoring average.
