1907-1910
Highlights:
1907: Tryouts held for inaugural team, Maurice Joyce named head coach.
1907: Georgetown defeats Virginia in first game, 22-11.
1908: Georgetown named "Champions of the South" in its second season.
1909: Basketball suspended for $188.54 deficit, returns that fall.
1910: Law students comprise all but one member of the roster.
1911-1920
Highlights:
1911: James Colliflower named head coach.
1914: John O'Reilly hired as head coach of basketball, baseball, and track.
1915: Home games moved on campus to Ryan Gymnasium.
1918: Law student Fred Fees leads nation in scoring (18.2 ppg).
1918: Georgetown begins five year unbeaten streak at home.
1921-1930
Highlights:
1921: Georgetown wins 23 of 24 games over two seasons.
1923: John O'Reilly returns as head coach after illness.
1927: Elmer Ripley hired as head coach.
1927: Home games move off campus for the next 24 seasons.
1928: First reference of Georgetown team as "Hoyas" in print.
1931-1940

1931: Fred Mesmer named head coach.
1934: Ed Hargaden named Georgetown's first All-American in basketball.
1935: Hoyas end NYU's 21 game winning streak in notable upset.
1938: Elmer Ripley returns as head coach.
1939: Georgetown wins a share of Eastern Intercollegiate conference title.
1941-1950
Highlights:
1941: Hoyas miss post-season despite 16-4 record.
1942: First 100 point game in 105-39 win over American.
1943: Georgetown earns its first Final Four appearance, losing in NCAA final.
1945: Basketball returns after two year wartime interruption.
1949: Buddy O'Grady named head coach.
1951-1960
Highlights:
1951: McDonough Gymnasium opens.
1952: Buddy Jeannette named head coach.
1953: Georgetown earns its first NIT bid.
1956: Tom Nolan named head coach.
1960: Tom O'Keefe named head coach.
1961-1970
Highlights:
1963: Hoyas defeated #1-ranked Loyola-Chicago.
1964: First Top 25 pre-season ranking.
1966: Jack Magee named head coach.
1970: Hoyas earn first NIT bid in 17 seasons.
1971-1980
Highlights:
1972: John Thompson hired as head coach.
1975: First NCAA appearance since 1943.
1979: Georgetown joins Big East Conference.
1980: Hoyas win Big East tournament, advance to NCAA regional final
1981-1990
Highlights:
1981: Home games move off campus to Capital Centre in Landover, MD.
1982: Hoyas advance to NCAA final, fall to North Carolina 63-62.
1984: Georgetown wins NCAA national championship over Houston, 84-75.
1985: Ranked #1 nationally, Hoyas fall short in NCAA final to Villanova, 66-64.
1989: Georgetown wins sixth Big East title in ten seasons.
1991-2000
Highlights:
1993: Georgetown ends streak of 14 consecutive NCAA appearances.
1995: Big East expands to 13 schools.
1996: Allen Iverson becomes Georgetown's first NBA early entry.
1998: Home games move downtown to MCI Center.
1999: John Thompson retires as coach, succeded by Craig Esherick.
2001-2010
Highlights:
2001: Hoyas advance to NCAA Sweet 16.
2004: John Thompson III named head coach.
2005: Big East expands to 16 schools.
2006: Georgetown upsets #1 Duke, 87-84.
2007: Hoyas win Big East title, first Final Four since 1985
2011-2020
Highlights:
2011: Hoyas begin run of 32 home wins over 34 games.
2013: Georgetown wins 8th Big East regular season title.
2013: Big East reforms as 10 team conference.
2016: John Thompson Center opens.
2017: Patrick Ewing named head coach.
2021-Present
Highlights:
2021: The 2020-21 season is played in empty gyms due to COVID-19.
2021: Despite 8th place finish, Hoyas win Big East tournament title in an empty Madison Square Garden.
2023: Following a 13-50 mark over two seasons, Patrick Ewing is fired.
