Tim Mercier (1968-1971)
The last in a 25 year line of Georgetown basketball recruits from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, NJ, Tim Mercier was an all-county guard who was expected to compete for a starting role as a junior. It took an extra year for Georgetown fans to see what he was capable of.
From a 4.6 points per game average as a sophomore in 1968-69 includibng a career high 27 points versus Holy Cross, Mercier lost the first half of the 1969-70 season to illness and didn't return to the starting lineup until his senior season, where he shot 47 percent from the field en route to a 7.7 points average, fourth best on the team that year. The 5-10 guard also worked inside, finishing third on the team in rebounds.
Following Georgetown, Mercier became a teacher and high school administrator in Bayonne, NJ, retiring in 2014.
