Trenton Hillier (1999-2003)

A kicker for Georgetown's football team, Trenton Hillier served as a four year basketball reserve for the Hoyas, seeing regular time in his first two seasons but less time as an upperclassman, where he saw just 10 minutes of on-court time as a senior.

It was assumed by many Hillier was a walk-on given his limited playing time, but this turned out not to be the case.

"Trenton had sent [the basketball coaching staff] a videotape as well as a videotape to the football coach," head coach Craig Esherick told the HOYA. "We were able to use a seldom-used loophole in the NCAA rules and were able to give him a scholarship because of the fact that he played both sports and football is the dominant sport in the NCAA, and so he was basically counted against football. I knew at the time that we were looking at Trenton that we needed help at the point guard position, and it was almost like having another scholarship."

"To the best of my knowledge, there's something in the NCAA that says if you play football for a [Division] I-AA non-scholarship team, that gives the basketball team another scholarship to give, or something like that," Hillier added. "So I chose to come to Georgetown because it was a full ride and I could play basketball and football."

"Of course I would have liked to play more," Hillier said following his senior season. "I would have liked to see my career be a little different, but I wouldn't do anything different. I've learned a lot, gotten a lot out of it, and definitely had a positive experience."
