Sead Dizdarevic (2003-2007)
Following the transfers of Tony Bethel and Drew Hall in 2003, head coach Craig Esherick secured two commitments in California within a week of each other. One of these was 6-8 forward Sead Dizdarevic, a native of Montenegro who was living in Sacramento, CA, where he averaged 22 points and 14 rebounds per game at North Highland HS.
Dizdarevic was the first Eastern European recruit for the Hoyas since Vladimir Bosanac in 1990 and like Bosanac, Dizdarevic struggled to get time in the Georgetown lineup. His best season was his freshman year, averaging 1.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 23 games, but his time declined as jeff green and Roy Hibbert began to assume a regular place in the lineups under John Thompson III. His career best was five points in four minutes during the 2004-05 season versus Howard.
A four year reserve, Dizdarevic saw the Hoyas go from 13-15 his freshman year to a Final Four as a senior. Following college, Dizdarevic earned two master's degrees at Georgetown and founded the Georgetown Basketball Diplomacy Program, a project held in conjunction with the Department of State where Georgetown officials hold summer basketball campus in such countries as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
"The camp had kids from four different countries that in the past two decades have been affected by wars and ethnic divisions so what we tried to accomplish in this camp was to bring those kids together and introduce them to American culture, but at the same time, use this time to to create new friendships between kids from Bosnia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia," Dizdarevic said in 2011.
Dizdarevic went into the securities business after Georgetown, where his profile notes that he leads efforts in financial modeling and reverse engineering of structured pass-through mortgage-backed securities.
