Randolph Schmeling (1956-1958)
At 6-9, Randolph (Max) Schmeling was the tallest player recruited to Georgetown in the 1950's. Unfortunately, as was the case with many tall players in this era, Schmeling was too much of a project to effectively contribute to the team.
Despite his height, and on a team whose centers were routinely 6-5 and under, Schmeling's court play often limited his time on the court. In two seasons he averaged just 37 percent from the floor, and scored in double figures in only two games in his two year career.
Schmeling's numbers picked up toward the end of the 1957-58 season, scoring a combined 35 in games against St. Joseph's and George Washington, and averaging 8.2 rebounds that season. However, he did not return for his senior season and went to work as a factory sales representative for a commercial fireproofing company.
