Ray Knight (1980-1981)
In a different time, a player like Ray Knight might have found himself as a starting center for the Georgetown Hoyas. That changed on Feb. 2, 1981, when Patrick Ewing declared he would attend Georgetown in the fall of that year.
Knight, a freshman on the 1980-81 team, averaged 2.5 points a game as an understudy to Ed Spriggs, but opted not to be Ewing's backup as a sophomore. He transferred to Providence under John Thompson's old coach, Joe Mullaney, where Knight worked alongside a future NBA All-Star in Otis Thorpe.
Knight started 45 games for the Friars over three season, including all 31 games as a senior, averaging 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds a game.
Knight was a 5th round selection of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1985 NBA Draft, but was released prior to the beginning of the season.
