Paul Dillon (1928-1931)
GEORGETOWN ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
|
Named to the Georgetown University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1953, comparatively little is known about the play of Paul Dillon, who played for three years on the varsity teams of the late 1920's and early 1930's.
Dillon was a two year starter at forward from 1929 to 1931, with a pair of career high 14 point efforts versus West Virginia and Loyola-Chicago as a junior. Of the latter the Loyola News cited Dillon to its all-opponent team, noting that "Paul Dillon, of Georgetown, is another whose position we have changed for the sake of creating an invincible quintet. Paul has been working up as great a sensation in the East as [Purdue's Stretch Murphy] and [Butler's Oral Hillenbrand] have in the Middle West. He is an ace at floor work and guarding and he couples this with an incredible knack of putting shots in from all angles."
Dillon suited up as a senior but is not found in any statistical records. The 1932 Ye Domesday Booke noted that he was "lost" for the season and was "unable to play for several games" but cited no further reason. The Nov. 4, 1931 issue of The HOYA noted that Dillon was "reported ineligible this year".
A football coach at his alma mater, the Iona School (now Iona Prep), Dillon died in 1952.
