Ken Pichette (1955-1958)

A steady shooter through his Georgetown years, Ken Pichette stepped up when the team needed it the most.

Pichette averaged 17 points a game with the freshman squad of 1954-55 and was expected to pick up the scoring mantle when Warren Buehler was lost for the season by injury. Pichette didn't score until the fifth game of the 1955-56 season, but by early January he was a steady scorer, with double figure efforts in 13 of the team's final 14 games.

Buehler returned to the lineup in 1956-57, but Pichette continued his strong play, averaging 11.0 per game as the team's fourth leading scorer, trailing three graduating seniors. For his senior year, Pichette was expected to team with junior Jack Nies and sophomore Tom McCloskey to push the Hoyas forward--by February, Nies and McCloskey were averaging a combined 23 points per game until they were among four players suspended after mid-semester grades. Pichette was the only scorer available, but he took on the challenge to step up his game--averaging 19 points a game down the stretch, not counting a 31 point effort against the New York Athletic Club that was later deemed an exhibition game for NCAA recordkeeping.

The suspensions cut the heart out of the Hoyas that season--Georgetown lost eight of its final ten--but Pichette's efforts had the Hoyas fighting through every game.

Ken Pichette ended his career as the school's fifth all time leading scorer by points and average; today, his scoring average ranks 30th.

Following Georgetown, Pichette joined the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War and teaching at the U.S. Air Force Academy. In his retirement, he served as served as Executive Director of the Louis N. Picciano Boys Club of Endicott, NY.
