Kevin Floyd (1984-1985)

An all-city guard from Los Angeles' Westchester HS, Kevin Floyd had planned to play locally, considering offers from Southern California, Loyola-Marymount and UC-Irvine when John Thompson offered a recruiting trip to Washington.

"When I visited the campus, it was like my own personal vision of what college should be, all these students bundled up in sweaters and scarfs," Floyd told the Los Angeles Times. "Then, when the No. 1 coach in the country shows that much interest in me, well, I admit it was a pleasurable feeling."

The freshman guard saw action in 22 of 38 games, averaging under six minutes per game but with an awkward jump shot that was not cured in practice. The arrival of Jaren Jackson and Charles Smith to the 1985-86 roster led him to consider a transfer, or, as he told the Times, he "could sit on the bench 3,000 miles closer to home."

Floyd announced a transfer just before the start of the 1985-86 season to UC-Irvine, scoring 995 points in three seasons with the Anteaters, averaging 50 percent from the field. His 12.5 point pre game average might have been prohibitive amidst the deeper pool of Georgetown guards of the late 1980's, which later included Bobby Winston, Mark Tillmon, and Dwayne Bryant.
