Jerry Pyles (1968-1971)

In today's basketball lineups, Jerry Pyles would be a shooting guard, with the numbers to prove it. In the late 1960's, however, he was placed at forward, where he was a three year reserve.

A pre-med who was named a second team Academic All-American in 1969, Pyles was a career 50 percent shooter for the Hoyas, finishing third on the team in scoring as a junior and finishing in double figures over seven of the team's final nine games. A 19 point game in the 1968-69 season finale versus Maryland was a career high.

With Art White and Mike Laughna up front as the Hoyas marched to the 1970 NIT, Pyles was an effective sixth man in the front court, shooting 51 percent from the field and averaging 6.5 points a game.

Following Georgetown, Pyles completed medical school at Duke and is a physician in Hendersonville, NC, a community south of Asheville.
