Jalen Harris (2020-2021)

One of three grad transfers that arrived in the 2020-21 season, the mid-season departure of Jalen Harris remains a mystery to many Georgetown fans.

Born in Wilson, NC, Harris was a top 15 recruit in the state when he signed with New Mexico in 2016, making 18 starts and averaging 4.5 points before announcing a transfer to Arkansas after his freshmen season. In two years at Arkansas, he averaged 5.9 points and 4.0 assists per game, ranking in the top 20 in school history in assists after just two seasons. An able ball handler, he had 21 games in 2019-20 without a single turnover.

Harris' arrival at Georgetown was expected to provide leadership in the backcourt following the loss of James Akinjo and Mac McClung the year earlier. In his first five games, Harris averaged 4.8 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Harris did not play in the Dec. 11, 2020 game with St. John's, due to what Georgetown cited as back spasms. Five days later, head coach Patrick Ewing announced Harris was taking a leave of absence to deal with an undisclosed family issue. Harris did not return to the team for the remainder of the season and Ewing did not comment further on his status. Though he maintained a full year of eligibility due to the NCAA COVID-19 waiver, Harris did not play college basketball thereafter.
