Hank Morano (1954-1955)

A season after Buddy Jeannette lost his top sophomore star at mid-season, lightning struck twice on the Hoyas.

In 1953-54, it was Bill Cowley. In 1954-55, it was "Hank" Morano, Jeannette's high scoring sophomore guard from Union City, NJ. The 6-2 Morano had scored in double figures in 15 of his 17 games to open the season, with a season high of 24 versus Miami, 22 against American, and 21 versus Fordham. Following a game against LaSalle on Feb. 2, 1955, Morano and two other players were suspended for what the Ye Domesday Booke called "disciplinary reasons", whereupon Georgetown lost 10 of its final 13 to end the season.

Morano returned home and transferred to St. Peter's, averaging 18.8 points as a junior and 20.3 as a senior, earning him a 5th round NBA draft selection by the Detroit Pistons. Instead of the pros, Morano returned to Emerson High School, where he became one the legendary coaches of New Jersey high school basketball, alongside such names as Bob Farrell at Seton Hall Prep, Bill McKeever at Union Hill, and Bob Hurley at St. Anthony's.

Upon his retirement, Hank Morano was named to the Hudson County Hall of Fame.
