George Pajak (1938-1941)

A three year letterman on both the baseball and basketball teams, George Pajak enjoyed his best season on the hardwood in 1939-40, leading the team in scoring.

Pajak was elevated to the starting lineup at the beginning of that season. He quickly became a scoring force for the team, scoring in double figures in six straight games, with a career high 18 against West Virginia and a 14 point output and game winning shot to upset Army.

During the February 15, 1940 game versus American, Pajak fractured his arm, sidelining him for the season with a 10.1 points per game average. As a senior, he returned to the bench behind Jim Kiernan, who took his place in the lineup after the American game. Pajak averaged 4.0 points in his final season.

Pajak served in the Coast Guard in World War II and played professional basketball for part of four seasons from 1944 through 1948, including the Baltimore Clippers and Paterson Crescents of the American Basketball League. He worked for many years with the Pratt & Whitney Corporation.

At the time of his death in 2011, George Pajak was the oldest living former Georgetown basketball player, passing six weeks short of his 95th birthday.
