Dante Harris (2020-2022)
Dante Harris arrived at Georgetown in 2020 among its least regarded recruits and became one of its most notable.
Harris, who lived in Washington before his family moved to Alcoa, TN, was ranked only 418th nationally when he committed to Georgetown in October 2019. Expected to play a role as a reserve guard, Harris was elevated to the starting lineup seven games into his freshman season when graduate transfer Jalen Harris (no relation) took a break from the team in December 2020 for what Ewing called at the time a "family issue". He never returned to Georgetown and did not exercise his final year of eligibility elsewhere.
Since that move, Harris started 50 consecutive games over two seasons, and was named the 2021 Big East Tournament MVP for a 14.2 point, 3.6 assist effort over the final three games of the tournament. As a sophomore, Harris started 29 games and scored in double figures in 20 of them, with a career high of 23 versus Creighton.
The only returning starter from the 2021-22 season, Harris' relationship with the University appeared to have been strained after head coach Patrick Ewing recruited Duquesne transfer Amir Spears to lead the offense in place of Harris. Prior to the season opener, head coach Patrick Ewing reported that Harris was not with the team due to "personal issues". Harris never rejoined the team and after nine games, Georgetown officials quietly removed his name from the active roster.
