Cam Bacote (2023-2024)
A seven year odyssey through college basketball ended at Georgetown University for Cam Bacote, a third generation college athlete from Hampton, VA.
A 1000 point scorer and academic honor roll selection in four seasons at Bethel HS, Bacote was not heavily recruited in the spring of 2017 and signed with Maryland-Eastern Shore for the 2017-18 season, averaging 7.2 points per game in 32 games, with 16 starts, including a seven point, seven assist effort versus Georgetown on November 18, 2017, the third game in Patrick Ewing's inaugural season.
Opting to transfer prior to the activation of the NCAA transfer portal, Bacote sat out the 2018-19 season and then played two seasons as a reserve at Indiana State, averaging 2.6 points and 0.8 assists. A second transfer followed to a grad transfer role at Western Carolina, starting the final 15 games of the 2021-22 season with an 8.1 points per game average, but his final season of eligibility was lost to injury and he entered the transfer portal as a result. Bacote averaged 5.2 points across 117 prior games for the Hawks, Sycamores, and Catamounts.
Despite his experience, Bacote saw comparatively little time in his final season of eligibility at Georgetown, playing just 43 minutes during Big East play and scoring just three points. His four points in the season opener versus LeMoyne was a season high. At season's end, he sent a message to social media confirming his college days were over. "I'm now a full time Indiana State, Western Carolina, and Georgetown basketball fan," he wrote.
