Bill Feeney (1942-1943)

In his 1990 obituary in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bill Feeney was eulogized as "Georgetown's star center" from its 1943 team. While that may well be an exaggeration for the 6-3 forward and reserve to All-America John Mahnken in the post, it did take note of Feeney's greatest game in a Georgetown uniform.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Feeney came to Georgetown's varsity as a forward from Central Catholic High School, but when 6-9 Sylvester Goedde left the team for a professional baseball contract, Feeney became a backup to Mahnken in the pivot, averaging 3.4 points per game. His season high came with 11 points off the bench in a March 4 game with Syracuse, and he scored 16 combined points in the Final Four games with DePaul and Wyoming; in the latter, his eight points led all Georgetown scorers in the championship game.

Feeney enlisted in the Marines and entered wartime service in 1943. He returned to Georgetown to earn his bachelor's degree in 1946 and was a co-founder of Pro-Knitwear, a Pittsburgh-based athletic apparel company that he served as an executive until his death at the age of 65 in 1990.
