Terrell Allen (2019-2020)

As a fifth year graduate transfer, Terrell Allen was expected to be a backup contributor at Georgetown to a pair of high flying sophomore guards. Instead he became a key contributor in a difficult year for the Georgetown backcourt.

The son of former Hofstra guard Leroy Allen, Terrell grew up in the Washington DC area and played at DeMatha Catholic HS, earning second team all-WCAC honors. Recruited by mid-major schools, he signed with Drexel in 2015, starting 29 of 31 games and averaging 9.8 points per game until transferring to Central Florida after his freshman year.

Allen was a quiet but effective contributor in two years at UCF. He finished fifth in the AAC in assists as a redshirt junior and shot 40 percent from three point range in a season where the Knights advanced to the NCAA's with a 23-8 record and won its first ever tournament game over Virginia Commonwealth. In the second round, UCF nearly upset Duke, falling at the buzzer 77-76. Allen's defensive efforts against Duke guard Tre Jones, holding Jones to 5 for 15 shooting on the afternoon, brought Allen some national attention as a possible fifth year option.

"As I prepare to graduate from this great university and begin the next chapter of my academic and athletic career, I would like to announce that I will be coming home to play my final year of eligibility as a graduate student at Georgetown University," he announced in 2019.

Allen had only limited playing time early in the 2019-20 season, playing just nine minutes versus Duke and 15 minutes in a loss to UNC greensboro. Following the departure of James Akinjo, Allen was promoted to the starting lineup and never left, rallying the Hoyas with outstanding individual and team play all season. In his first game as a starter, he scored 15 points in a road upset of Oklahoma State, and followed it up three night later with 10 assists versus SMU. He scored a career high 22 versus Butler and followed it up with 21 versus DePaul.

"I've seen him play at UCF, and he always makes the right play," sophomore Mac McClung told the Washington Post. "He's one of the most solid point guards I've ever played with."

"I don't think it matters if you're a starting point guard or a backup," Allen told the Post. "I feel like you still have the same role when you go out there: control the team, lead the team as best you can, get other people involved, and take the shots that you have...That's something that I wanted to bring coming in, just to be able to have fun, be able to move the ball, let everybody get a share."
