Ryan Dougherty (2009-2011)

It's rare to recruit a walk-on transfer, but such was the case when University of Rochester guard Ryan Dougherty joined the Hoyas in the 2009-10 season. An honorable mention All-Met in 2007 and the IAC player of the year, Dougherty played sparingly at Rochester due to injury and decided to return to Washington after his sophomore season.

Though Dougherty didn't join the roster until 2009-10 and his playing time was limited, his efforts off the court did not go unnoticed. Coach Thompson named him a tri-captain for the 2010-11 season, the first captain selected from the walk-on ranks since the 1945-46 season.

Following graduation, Dougherty pursued a master's degree at Georgetown, then received a law degree from Boston College. He is currently an attorney in the Boston area.
