Kaiden Rice (2021-2022)

Kaiden Rice was, at times, either the greatest or the most frustrating three point shooter in Georgetown basketball history.

A four year letterman at the Citadel, scoring 2,232 points and averaging 17.6 points per game, Rice used his grad transfer option to enroll at Georgetown. Rice was a three point shooter by trade, averaging over 10 three point shots a game for the Bulldogs in 2020-21, and was second in the nation in thee point shots taken. Unlike players that needed to get into position to shoot from outside, Rice shot from wherever he received the pass--23 feet, 28 feet, or more, it didn't matter. If Rice got the ball, he immediately shot the three.

Georgetown fans were soon introduced this rapid-fire approach. In an early season game versus American, Rice missed all seven attempts, but then scored seven three pointers three days later versus Siena. In the first five games of the 2021-22 season, he twice tied the school record for threes, and after an frosty 0 for 10 effort versus South Carolina, Rice emphatically broke the record with 10 three pointers and 34 points overall in a win over UMBC.

Rice scored in double figures in 13 games overall, but as Big East teams adjusted to his style of play, his productivity fell noticeably. Rice did not drive the ball nor set up assists: he had just five assists in 19 conference games. With this inconsistency, Rice would spend much of the second half of the 2021-22 season coming off the bench, but the hot and cold shooting persisted. Excepting a 5 for 8 shooting effort versus Seton Hall on March 2, Rice shot just 5 for 42 from three point range in his final seven games, most of which resulted in a defensive rebound by GU's opponents. In that sense, Georgetown could either get a much needed three or a de facto turnover on every shot he took.

With 92 threes in 250 attempts, Kaiden Rice set Georgetown single season records in both categories and finished fourth in scoring on the season.
