Josh Thornton (2005-2006)

Here was a case of a solid player not fitting into the John Thompson III system. Largely forgotten today, Josh Thornton averaged 27 points per game at Caesar Rodney HS in Wilmington, DE, with Rivals.com ranking him among the top 40 shooting guards in the nation. He opened his Georgetown career with seven points in six minutes in a game versus Fairfield, yet played only 13 minutes the remainder of the season, scoring only three points thereafter.

Thornton transferred to Towson, where he grew into one of the Tigers' most reliable scorers. Counting his meager 10 points at Georgetown,Thornton finished his Towson career with 1,002 points, averaging 49.9% from the field, and 39.1% from three point range, becoming the school's all-time three point scorer. He averaged 11.1 points a game for the Tigers over a 91 game career.

It's difficult to say if Thornton would have become this kind of scorer for Georgetown, but he certainly had the skills for it.
