Jim Oravec (1956-1959)

Jim Oravec was an all-state guard from Palmerton, PA who joined the Hoyas's varsity in the 1956-57 season. A two year starter through 1959 and the team captain his senior year, his best season was in 1957-58, averaging 10.9 per game and 14.2 over his final ten games, including a career high 24 points against NYU at Madison Square Garden that earned Oravec a photo in the New York Daily News, memorialized to this day in the Getty Image Archives.

As an outside shooter, Oravec's scoring percentage was low throughout his career. Despite a 35 percent shooting average his senior season, he was nonetheless awarded the Daly Memorial Award for the team's most valuable player in 1958-59.

After Georgetown, Oravec relocated to Fairfield, CT, where he was an insurance agent at Northwestern Mutual Life until his death in 1997 at the age of 60.
