A two year member of the varsity team, J. Louis Monarch saw most of his action as a second year law student, starting 18 games for the 1910-11 team that won 13 games that season, most in the 1910's. He did not return for a third season, as he focused on receiving his law degree from th4 evening program in 1912.

For many years, Monarch served as an special assistant to the U.S. Attorney General's office, specializing in federal tax cases.
