Joe Mazelin (1961-1964)

An underrated player in his three years at the Hilltop, Joe Mazelin was a undersized but important contributor to Georgetown's improved basketball fortunes of the early 1960's.

A 6-2 forward from Indianapolis, Mazelin saw action in 16 games as a sophomore, averaging 3.6 points on 43 percent shooting. He looked to be taking a major step forward as a junior, with double figure games in six of his first 11 games, including 20 versus Navy. On Jan. 12, 1964, Mazelin broke his wrist in a game versus Boston College and was lost for the season.

Mazelin returned to the starting lineup as a senior, with his most productive year as a collegian. He averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, finishing third in rebounds despite suffering a mid-season injury that cost him two games midway during the year. In the end, the Hoyas' 15 wins that season was its most in 11 years.
