A three year member of the varsity football team, Huigh Doherty played basketball as a senior starting all 11 games and finishing fourth on the team in scoring.

Doherty returned to his home town to become an attorney, and was later cited by St. Peter's Prep as a member of its athletic hall of fame, having also served as a football, basketball and baseball coach at Prep in the 1920's and 1930's.
