Greg Malinowski (2018-2019)

A second team All-Met forward from Chantilly, VA, Greg Malinowski wasn't on Georgetown's radar in 2014 but ended his career at the Hilltop as a valuable reserve for the Hoyas.

Malinowski signed with William & Mary as a high school senior, turning down offers at Boston College, Cornell, UMBC, and Towson, among others, but none from the Big East. He played three seasons for the Tribe, starting in 24 of 31 games his junior year but seeing just 19 minutes of action per game over a 95 game stretch in Williamsburg. William & Mary earned back to back 20 wins seasons for the first time since 1949-51, but Malinowski was seen more as a sixth man than as a scoring leader. His 22 points versus Hofstra in 2015-16 was a career high to date.

A public policy major at W&M, Malinowski and announced a transfer in June 2017. Some fans weren't sure if he was a graduate transfer or a walk-on; he was neither, sitting out the 2017-18 season with one season of eligibility remaining in 2018-19 to fulfill undergraduate requirements at Georgetown. According to a 2020 podcast, Malinowski originally reached out to George Washington but GW wasn't interested; a contact with assistant coach Akbar Waheed led to a meeting with head coach Patrick Ewing. While third year transfers are rare, Malinowski provided the experience Ewing needed off the bench.

Despite averaging just 17 minutes per game, Malinowski has been among the most efficient players Georgetown has seen from its bench--third in shooting, third in assists, and fourth overall in three pointers, with a 41 percent average. Starting six games this season, Malinowski posted double figure totals in eight games, none more notable than in the 2018-19 Big East opener at Butler.

Starting in place of the injured Mac McClung, Malinowski turned in a career best against the Bulldogs, hitting 10 of 12 shots (6 of 7 from three) for 26 points, leading Georgetown to the 84-76 road win. Over three games in conference play during McClung's absence, Malinowski averaged 17 points per game.

"I just wanted to come out and be a spark and do whatever it took to help the team, whether it be shooting or defending or bringing energy or leadership," he said.

Following graduation, Malinowski played professionally in Germany.
